Safety Surfacing
Engineered Wood Fiber - EWF
EWF or Engineered Wood Fiber is a loose fill wood mulch safety surfacing designed specifically for playgrounds. It is the most common type of playground safety surfacing and by far the most economical choice for most play areas.
Use Cases: Playgrounds, Fitness Trails, Outdoor Lounge Spaces, Dog Parks.
Rubber Mulch
Rubber mulch is another loose fill safety surfacing option. Often made from recycled ground up tires, it is an excellent choice for those looking to be “greener.” Rubber mulch goes a long way, with a 4″ depth covering up to a 10′ critical fall height.
Use Cases: Playgrounds, Fitness Trails, Outdoor Lounge Spaces.
Bonded Rubber
Bonded rubber is created when loose rubber mulch is mixed with a binding agent, then applied to a prepared surface to create a single layer of safety surfacing. It’s ideal for those not wanting the mess that can come with loose fill surfacing.
Use Cases: Playgrounds, Fitness Spaces, Outdoor Lounge Spaces.
Poured-In-Place
Poured in place is a two-layer safety surfacing system made up of a thick base layer and a thinner top layer. This surfacing option is highly customizable in terms of color and design; ideal for clients with larger budgets.
Use Cases: Playgrounds, Fitness Spaces, Outdoor Lounge Spaces, Pool Areas.
Artificial Turf
Artificial turf can be used for playground surfacing by installing the turf over a foam underlayment. The foam provides the necessary impact attenuation to cover most fall heights, while the turf provides a more natural aesthetic.
Use Cases: Playgrounds, Fitness Spaces, Outdoor Lounge Spaces, Pool Areas, Dog Parks.
